The increase to adjacent tile appeal means you can have supercharged seaside resorts along your coasts, provided you position your Pairidaezas well. Lastly, the Pairidaeza is a great UI that makes for an interesting and fun game of positioning coastal cities to boost your tourism game. They even get a nice road bonus that helps move units around your empire quicker. Added culture and gold per route is very nice. Persia's emphasis on internal trade routes is also fantastic, as I find these trade routes more useful than international ones anyways. The Immortal units are great for positioning and keeping your front lines defended, you just need to ensure you have other melee units like spearman or horsemen to take cities. The movement bonus following a surprise declaration of war, with the added bonus of receiving a reduced warmonger penalty, makes going to war very fun. I find culture games way more engaging and interesting than the other victory types, and I love that Cyrus combines cultural bonuses with military ones. It's hard to pick just one because there are quite a few that I really enjoy, but I'd say my current favourite is Cyrus/Persia. All that to say, I don't feel like I really put all of the leader and civ abilities to good use that game.Īnyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone else's preferences are, and maybe a few good war stories too. His attacks were very easy to repel, and I accepted peace as soon as he offered it, which was before my troops had left my borders. I was only ever in one war, when Saladin hit me with a surprise war when I was getting close to winning. I ended up just mass expanding and winning via science, narrowly edging out Australia in the space race. However, in the game I played with her, I spawned ~40 tiles away from Saladin who immediately declared friendship with me, and he was my closest neighbor. Her bonuses seemed right up my alley, with a very powerful and easy to produce early game unit. I'm going to give an honorable mention to Amanitore. By the time I'm finally ready to talk peace, they're practically begging me to take their cities, most of which have revolted or are about to. Furthermore, I'll intentionally keep the AI at war for long periods of time to build up their warmonger penalities. Not only does Alexander not take any penalties for that, but he profits from it via tech and civic boosts. I only play on Deity, so constant warring is almost unavoidable. To answer my own question, I've enjoyed everyone I've played but I think Alexander has been the most fun. All games have been science or military wins, mostly because I don't fully understand the mechanics behind religion and culture, and feel like I'd get run over if I went for them. I've successfully completed games as Peter, Trajan, Teddy, Victoria, Amanitore, and Alexander. I ask because I've just completed a game and can't decide who to play next.
